HST3D-GUI now available free of charge to Argus ONE users
This message is being sent to all registered users of the HST3D GUI
and a few other people who I think might be interested.
I have decided to make the HST3D GUI available for free. I wrote
the HST3D GUI almost three years before I started working for the
U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). When I was hired by the USGS, it
was a temporary employee and I was told that the chances of my
being made permanent were not good. I decided to hold on the the
HST3D GUI, at that point, because I might become unemployed
sometime in the not-so-distant future. The HST3D GUI could help
provide some supplemental income if that happened. The USGS
has now hired me on a permanent basis so I now feel I can afford to
let go of the HST3D GUI. For the time being, the HST3D GUI is
available from my web site. However, it may, in the future be
adopted by the USGS. If that happens, it will be taken off my web
site and put on the USGS web site.
Registered users will continue to receive technical support from me
on the use of the HST3D GUI. Unregistered users who request
technical support will receive it as time and convenience permit.
I have placed a new version of the HST3D GUI on my web site that
no longer requires any registration to work with large grids. This
new version also includes version 2.09 of HST3D.
I'd like to thank you again for purchasing the HST3D GUI. If you
run into any problems with it please let me know and I will help you
solve them.
Sincerely yours,
Richard B. Winston

USGS Releases Argus ONE - MODFLOW GUI version 4.0
The USGS has released version 4.0 of the MODFLOW GUI, a preprocessor and postprocessor graphical-user interfaces for preparing MODFLOW-96, MODFLOW-2000, MOC3D, MODPATH, and ZONEBDGT input data and viewing model output for use within Argus Open Numerical Environments (Argus ONE)
We at Argus are very pleased with this new release of the MODFLOW-GUI version 4 especially since it was released on the same day the new MODFLOW 2000 and other 4 models were released by the USGS, allowing Argus ONE users to enjoy the latest scientific developments as soon as they are released by the developers.
MODFLOW GUI 4.0 may be fetched from: http://water.usgs.gov/nrp/gwsoftware/mfgui4/modflow-gui.html
The following paragraph by the USGS describes the new features available in version 4.0 of the GUI:
The new version of the MODFLOW Graphical User Interface for Argus ONE
(MODFLOW GUI) adds support for the U.S. Geological Survey's
MODFLOW-2000 and the Reservoir, Transient Leakage, Interbed Storage, Lake, and
Gage packages. The new version can also import existing MODFLOW-88 and
MODFLOW-96 models. A utility program, GW_Chart, was developed in conjunction
with the MODFLOW GUI and is used for post-processing of the output of MODFLOW.
Also, in conjunction with the development of the MODFLOW GUI, three utility Plug-In
Extensions (PIE's) were developed. One PIE facilitates importing gridded data into
Argus ONE. This is helpful when attempting to reproduce an existing model in Argus
ONE. Another PIE allows editing of data points on data layers. A third utility PIE
allows expressions to be evaluated at specific X,Y coordinates. A series of example
models were created and can be used to learn about the features of MODFLOW, Argus
ONE, and the MODFLOW GUI.
The new interface is available from a new USGS web site on which the latest editions of USGS GW modelling software are posted. Beta versions and minor updates are also regularly placed on this site. The site's address is: http://water.usgs.gov/nrp/gwsoftware/
The interface may be fetched from: http://water.usgs.gov/nrp/gwsoftware/mfgui4/modflow-gui.html
The source code may be also fetched from the same directory
MODFLOW GUI PIE version 4.0 requires Argus ONE with the GIS and Grid modules. It is also supported by the Argus ONE student version.
Model developers interested in developing GIS interfaces for their codes may visit our web site at (http://www.argusone.com) to find out about Argus ONE and to download the Plug_In Development KIT.

Argus ONE, the enabling technology used by USGS scientists to develop the GIS-Model interface, is a dynamic GIS specially designed for synthesis and analysis of geographically related data. Integrated within Argus ONE, the GIS-Model interfaces are used by USGS hydrologists in their everyday work and enables them to leverage their GIS data.
This is the third major version of the Argus ONE - MODFLOW interface the USGS releases since it has released the first version some two years ago. Extensive experience has been accumulated in the USGS during 3 years of wide use of Argus ONE as a GIS-modelling environment and as a Graphical User Interface (GUI) development environment. This experience, combined with suggestions received from users of previous versions and other model interfaces developed by the USGS, yielded an interface which is superior in every respect.
Modern programming approaches were used in the development of version 3 of the interface. Since the source code of the interface is also available to the general public, anyone may easily customize the interface developed by the USGS to support new model capabilities developed in and outside the USGS. More important, the new version will allow such developers to easily upgrade their customized versions of the interface when the USGS releases new versions of its interface.
The USGS report is available in Adobe Acrobat pdf format from:
http://water.usgs.gov/nrp/gwsoftware/modflow-gui/mfgui_30.pdf
The interface may be fetched from:
http://water.usgs.gov/nrp/gwsoftware/modflow-gui/modflow-gui.htmlThe source code may be also fetched from the same directory
We at Argus are very pleased with the continued commitment to the Argus ONE technology manifested by the release of this new model interface. Argus ONE is enabling engineers and scientists all around the world to put their GIS data into immediate use in decision making and planning. Argus ONE also offers unmatched Rapid Application Development (RAD) capabilities for GIS applications and solutions.
Modelers and model developers interested in using and developing GIS interfaces for their models are invited to visit our web site at (http://www.argusone.com) to find out about Argus ONE and to download the Plug_In Development KIT.

New Plug-In saves Argus ONE projects as ArcView and ArcExplorer projects
We are pleased to announce the release of the ShapeFile IO PIE - a new
Plug-In Extension (PIE) for Argus ONE which saves complete Argus ONE
projects as ArcView and ArcExplorer projects.
With this new PIE modelers can save complete groundwater modelling
projects as ArcView and ArcExplorer projects and share their work with
colleagues, legislators, clients and decision makers using
GIS software other than Argus ONE.
Because the new PIE also saves model input and output to Shape files,
modelers using Argus ONE may share their work with colleagues
using other GIS packages which support the shape file format such as
Autodesk World, Autodesk Guide and Mapinfo.
Using the ShapeFile IO PIE modelers using Argus ONE can combine their
data and model results into reports prepared in their GIS of choice, and
publish their work on the Internet using ArcExplorer enabled web servers.
ArcExplorer is available for FREE from ESRI's web site at:
http://www.esri.com/software/arcexplorer/index.html
The ShapeFile IO PIE adds powerful new capabilities to ground water

DHV-MED Ltd. releases a new family of decision support tools for civil and environmental applications
We are pleased to announce the release of LandUse Analyst - a new family of
decision support applications developed by DHV-MED under Argus ONE.
Using Argus ONE unique capabilities in synthesizing and analyzing spatial
information, LandUse Analyst offers decision support capabilities which can
not be found in any other Geographic Information System.
"DHV-MED is involved in many environmental projects and regularly uses GIS
products.", says DHV-MED president Gabriel Siboni. "However when it comes
to dynamic, on-demand analysis of spatial information for decision making,
no GIS can do what Argus ONE can. Using Argus ONE we can offer our clients
the benefit of using their information for decision making long after we have
handed them their project."
"LandUse Analyst is an Argus ONE PIE which compiles many of the tools we
use for our clients into a polished "off the shelf" application which you can
readily use in your projects. Moreover, realizing the large variation
possible in engineering projects we have designed LandUse Analyst such that
you can customize it for your special needs."
"In the development of applications for LandUse Analyst we have received
many ideas from current users of Argus ONE. To show our appreciation we
would like to offer you LandUse Analyst at a special discount price of
only $99.95 (listed for $800.00)"
We at Argus are excited about DHV-MED decision to join the rapidly
growing number of companies and organizations offering products for
Argus ONE users. We are joining DHV-MED generous offer to Argus ONE
customers and offer Argus ONE and LandUse Analyst to those of you
who still do not have Argus ONE for only $1000.00 (listed for $1800.00)
Joshua Margolin
President
Argus Interware, Inc.
For a detailed description of LandUse Analyst please visit:
http://www.dhvmed.com/Products/Products.html
With LandUse Analyst you can perform:
-----------------------------------
- Site Suitability Analysis
- Landfill site Availability Analysis
- Soil Volume Calculations
This LandUse Analyst application automatically calculates
soil volumes between an existing topographical map and
previous or/and proposed future maps. The user can import DXF,
Shape topographic maps or digitize his own maps (contours or point
data). The results are shown on line.
- Soil Erosion Calculations
This LandUse Analyst application calculates soil erosion based
on Rain Fall, Soil Erodibility, Cropping, Erosion Control Practice
and Topography. Just input data and get the result shown on the map.
- Ground Water Modelling vs. Regulations Analysis
This LandUse Analyst application calculates whether and where
certain criteria are met. The user imports drawdown,
concentration, and velocities data from any ground water model run,
and determines the criteria limits for each or few of the criteria.
The system calculates and shows where the criteria limits have
been exceeded over the area map.
New graphical user-interface for HST3D 2.0
